It makes me sad to think that you will soon be a 1 year old- my baby is growing up so fast. I guess it's a good thing that there's another one on the way so we won't be without a baby for too long. You are probably 19 pounds, you seem to have gotten a lot taller the last month, but it's hard to measure at home. You are wearing 6-9 month clothing for the most part, we use a lot of your sweaters from the 3 month size and they fit you pretty well, aside from shortish arms, but it's not that cold here anyways. We also are a little short on pants, so you often wear 6 month pants that turn into capris when you wear them. So thank goodness for Texas winters that are not very cold!
You are starting to respond to our communication more. Some of my favorites:
- You know the sound a dog makes (and consequently you think every animal barks)
- You will say "ahh daaa" (all done) and raise your arms after you finish your meal
- You will give loves when I ask (most of the time)
- You will give daddy kisses before bedtime (only daddy)
- You try to say "bottle" when we have one near you at bedtime and when you are tired/ready to sleep
- You will point to babies in our nativity books and to Santa in our other Christmas books
- You can identify your nose
- You won't stop when we say "no no" but you watch us the whole time to see our reaction
- You will dance when there is music and clap at the end of songs
You are getting better at standing on your own. You scale the furniture and walls like a pro, but you do not like to practice walking. You have got the jello legs down whenever we say "walk". I have seen you take a step or two without holding on without a problem, but you do it on your own time, not when we are trying to make you walk.
You like to climb the stairs. We finally invested in a baby gate this month which has deterred you from going up the stairs on your own. You have only fallen once or twice and for the most part you have pretty good balance going up the stairs. We really need to work on going down the stairs because you are clueless.
You like to shake your head now. You don't know that it means no, but you still seem to shake it in response to yes or no questions. An elderly man was asking you to smile for him at the grocery store the other day and you stared for a second and then shook your head "no" with a cute little smirk on your face.
You say lots of dadadadadadadas and some babababas and gagas. Mamas are very rare to come by but that doesn't mean I don't try! You like to put things in containers and then dump them out. You also figured out how to do the ring stacking toy, you can put the colorful rings on the stick. You like to roll around your toy phone and your wooden train. You also love to play with your balls, especially the one that lights up. You chase it around the kitchen a lot and play catch with mom. You are getting kinda bored with your current toys, so hopefully Santa will bring something good for Christmas!
You love the Christmas tree cord. You don't pull on the branches too much, but you love to play with the cord. There are a few ornaments within reach that you often pull off the tree, but they are not fragile. You haven't even noticed the presents I laid underneath a few days ago. You picked out your first Christmas ornament - a spoon! Out of a fabric elephant and a metal spoon, you chose ... the spoon. It's very fitting since you love to eat and you often carry a spoon around the house with you.
You throw fits when we take things away from you or when we keep telling you "no no." You are usually pretty tough and don't cry every time you get hurt, but if you hit your head hard-ish you usually need some soothing.
You take 1 two hour nap each morning. You fight your afternoon nap, but will sometimes still take it. You go to bed around 7:30 or 8 each night and sleep until 8 each morning (yay!). You are starting to get more snuggly with your blankets and new stuffed animal dog.
My all time favorite thing you do now is give hugs. You will wrap your tiny little arms around my neck and squeeze. It's the best! We love you, Elle Belle! Keep being our little sweet heart!
